05/29/07 - Release Show Recap

We want to thank everyone who came to the release show last Thursday, which was easily one of the best shows that we have ever played as a band. It was wonderful to see so many friends, family members, loved ones, and new faces in the same place, and to play to such a tight crowd of great people. Farewell Flight and Koji on the Roof did a great job, as well, making the night fun and enjoyable all the way through. We were very excited to share the record with so many people and send FF and Koji off on their tour in good shape.

If any of you missed your chance to purchase the record, we'll be playing many more shows this summer, and you can purchase it through our Myspace Profile, among other retailers, a list of which will be available soon.

Take care, and we hope to see you soon.

04/27/07 - Track List

Thank you to everyone who has been giving us feedback on the new songs! We can't wait for you to hear the record as a unit. It is much more musically diverse than Fingers and Photons, but it holds together conceptually. Thanks to the friends and fans that came to the show in State College last night, too. Tonight, we're in Philly, and tomorrow it's York. It's a busy week, but we're excited about seeing people and places.

Here is the final track list:

1. Drinking to You
2. Magdalene
3. White
4. Looks Can Kill
5. Opus
6. I am Magellan pt. 1
7. Carried Away
8. Heavy Machine
9. I am Magellan pt. 2
10. She'll Be Fine
11. Undressed in Our Sleep

2/13/2007 - Our Updated Website

As you can see, the website has been revamped this week, thanks to the diligent work of our pianist/graphic designer Alan and our website manager, Todd. Many thanks to those fine gentlemen.

Shows have also been added and updated. There are also a few backdated news posts below that were waiting on the new website.

Make sure you come and hang out soon!

            Peace,

            Beams

2/5/2007 - Thanks and Optimism

Thank you to everyone who came to the show at the Champion Ship on Saturday night. It was a wonderful time, and we all got to see lots of friends and new faces. Some wonderful people even made us cupcakes! Thank you to Oregon Falls, The Royal Malcontents, The Green Trees Band, Farewell Flight and The Tide for playing with us and being great people. It meant a lot.

We essentially finished recording the album on Friday night, laying down the final electric guitar, harmonica, and vocal parts, and working on some initial mixing. It was very positive and exciting, and all of us are anxious to share the final product with as many people as possible. We have some tentative titles for the album, but nothing is firm as of yet.

We added some more shows, and more are on the way for March. Please come and see us in Lansdale on February 16, if you live in that area. More details will be posted within days. We have never been there, but look forward to meeting new people and playing with great bands like Illinois and The Gentlemen.

Stay warm and keep listening!

            Love,

            Nathan

2/2/2007 - FLY Magazine Interview

Fly Magazine's Keith Wilson interviewed Nathan last month, and you can check it out in this month's issue anywhere in Harrisburg, or at their website.

1/7/2007 - 11:30 AM - Recording, etc.

Hello, all,

Recording is going very well, and we are excited to finish things up in coming weeks and start the mixing process. Our engineer, Jason, is doing a wonderful job and being very patient with our ridiculousness.

We took a lot of pictures this weekend with our talented friend, Kimberly, so you will be seeing some of those soon on this site, and possibly in the album art of the forthcoming record.

Also, there is a new review of Fingers and Photons online here, if you are interested. Thanks to Northeastintune.com for their time and favorable words:

Speaking of press, an interview with Nathan will be in the February issue of FLY Magazine, so pick that up, if you have a chance.

Enjoy your week, and keep watching for more shows being posted soon!

            Peace,

            Beams

1/3/2007 - 10:30 AM - New Year News

2007 is the newest year out there right now, and Raise up Roof Beams is determined not to be left behind. We are taking advantage of all that this fresh, trendy year has to offer by recording and releasing a new album! We are beginning the recording process today, hopefully finishing that by the end of the month to allow some time for the other work of it to be completed slowly and carefully before we release the album this Spring.

Thank you for all of your support in the past year! We had some great shows, made some great friends, and reached new, better places as a band than we ever saw coming in 2005. Hopefully this year will surprise us in a similar way.

We finished the year with a great show at the Champion Ship with Koji on the Roof, Settle, and the Wonder Years. Thanks to everyone who came, listened, danced, and said 'hi.' We will be back to the Champion Ship in February with The Royal Malcontents, The Green Trees Band, Farewell Flight, and The Tide, so be sure you come to that and keep checking our shows listings for additions that will be happening frequently in January.

Enjoy your New Year, and don't be strangers.

            Much love,

            Nathan

12/5/2006 - 3:00 PM - New York, thanks for everything. Cold, thanks for nothing.

Thank you very much to everyone who came to our shows in New York this weekend, and helped us along the way. The University of Rochester and Alfred University have special places in our hearts forever. It was wonderful and cold and fun and sad to say goodbye. In spite of the wintry temperatures and immediate separation pains, it was a smashingly successful weekend of music, and it was wonderful to play with Harrison again, and make big plans for the recording we will be working on very soon.

Come hang out at Suba (FREE and 21+) on Dec. 10th with the Royal Malcontents and at Champion Ship (All ages, not free) on December 30 with Koji on the Roof and Settle, among others.

Have a wonderful December and keep listening.

            Love,

            Nathan

11/27/2006 - 11:00 AM - Charles Dickens Didn't Write Musicals

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us at shows this weekend! We had a lot of fun and got to hang out with some wonderful friends and meet new people in Camp Hill and Gettysburg.

This coming weekend, we will be in Rochester and Alfred, NY, and then we will play in Harrisburg Dec 10th at Suba. Don't forget about the big holiday show, either: December 30th at the Champion Ship with Koji on the Roof, Settle, and more. Looks to be a great time.

We are hoping to arrange all of our new songs on many new instruments in December and then record them during the first couple of weeks in January. This is going to be a much more ambitious recording than Fingers and Photons, so we are excited to see how it turns out and share it with everyone.

Thanks again for the support, and we hope everyone's Thanksgiving was as fun as ours was.

            Much love,

            Nathan

11/14/2006 - 2:00 PM - November News

We had a great time this weekend at Penn State, seeing friends, being interviewed on the radio, and playing a fun house party with The Ladykillers (of Philadelphia, PA). In spite of many technical difficulties (I broke a record number of strings and lost my voice halfway through the set), we had a great time hanging out, drinking, and getting shut down by the cops. Honestly, I am quite relieved to have finally had the cops called on a Roof Beams show. It was about time. We also were proud to help our new friend, Kasey, bring in her birthday with music. It was great to see some familiar faces from our Penn State show last month, too.

We added a new show with the Royal Malcontents for December 10 at Suba in Harrisburg, PA. It's 21+, FYI, and looks to be a classy night of food, drinks, and friends.

Speaking of which, we're playing at the Fiala Building in Camp Hill on November 24 with the Royal Malcontents, and at Emmaus in Gettysburg with Carroll Hill on November 25 (see fliers below). Come out help us celebrate Thanksgiving in the traditional way: melting faces.

Hope everyone is doing well and that we can see you at a show soon.

            Much love,

            Nathan

10/16/2006 - 10:00 AM - October News

Hello, all! We have been very busy lately, booking and playing shows and updating various aspects of our websites to help you get more Roof Beams in your life. We played a wonderful show at Penn State University last week with Koji on the Roof, The Minor White, and Boys Like Girls, and got a chance to meet great people and see old friends. Thanks so much to the good people at SOMA for organizing that show. We are looking forward to visiting State College again in November for a not-to-be-missed house party with the Ladykillers.

We were also interviewed by The Daily Collegian in conjunction with that show, so we will post the interview once it is finished.

We put a new video on our YouTube (and subsequently on our MySpace Profile), so be sure to check that out. It is a live performance of "My Forbidden Fruit" from Bloomington, Indiana. My voice was pretty rough at this point of the March tour, but it was a lot of fun still, and it was the show where we met Paul Baribeau, who is dreamy. The video has also been posted in the media section of our website, so you have far too many ways to see it now.

This coming week, we have a big show at The Fire in Philadelphia with The Royal Malcontents and The Green Trees Band. We're really excited to meet up with our good friends down there and finally play in Philadelphia proper. Please come out if you are in the area!

I put up a rough demo version of a new song called "Magdalene" on our Sound Click site. It's just me on guitar and organ and vocals, but you might enjoy it, regardless.

More news will come soon. We love you all.

            Nathan

10/05/2006 10:00 AM - Past, present, future.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our shows this past weekend! We had a great time in York and Hanover, playing with The Apathy Eulogy, The Royal Malcontents, Farewell Flight, and I, the Villain. It was nice to see familiar faces and meet new people in different parts of the great state of Pennsylvania. It was also Kelly's debut weekend with us, and her bass and vocal abilities were much appreciated by the band and the audiences, bringing a touch of class (and trained musical ability... how unique) to the group.

We have been feverishly booking more shows, and they will appear on the site as they are more secure. The first of these shows is the big promotional event with Boys Like Girls at Penn State University in State College, PA. We don't know much about this band, but we hear they're popular! So... come out to this free event to see us melt faces in a whole new town. Should be a good time. We'll be back to State College November 11, and we're also looking forward to hitting a few places in the wonderful state of New York in December.

So, keep listening and don't be strangers! We'll be coming to see you soon.

            Much love,

            Nathan

09/19/06 3:00 PM - Show!

9/18/2006 12:00 PM - New Song Available for Stealing!

"Drinking to You" is available for download on our MySpace, PureVolume, and Soundclick pages, so feel free to listen and let us know what you think! It was lovingly recorded in my apartment last week, with Alan and Justin contributing the musical genius that we have all come to expect from them.

We have lots of new things planned for our shows on September 29 and October 1, so be sure you make it to those, because there will be plenty of new songs to enjoy and good friends to see. We're excited to play with the Royal Malcontents and Farewell Flight again, too.

We are also starting to distribute Fingers and Photons through Valiant Death records (www.valiantdeath.com), so look out for more information on that soon.

Keep listening!

            Much love,

            Nathan

9/7/2006 04:00 PM - New Photos, New Songs, Great Shows

Well, it is September, and I am very happy to be able to wear sweaters again. I must say that summer weather is pretty much my least favorite because heat makes me very uncomfortable. I always wait until September to tell people that, because I don't want to rain on everyone's parade as they're enjoying the Sun and warm temperatures. I just like sweaters. Don't hate.

New songs abound here in the Raise up Roof Beams camp, and I would really like to record a new album this fall, just to have it done and ready for the people. I want to be able to take more time with the next record (I don't know if you are aware, but Fingers and Photons was recorded in two days and mixed and mastered in about a week and a half) to capture a more intricate and developed sound than we had with Fingers and Photons. I am still happy with the record, though, and still proud to have it available at shows and online as a time capsule of sorts for our sound from last spring.

We had a great show last week at Justin's place, with lots of friendly faces and wonderful bands. Real Live Tigers, The Royal Malcontents, Moons of Jupiter, and Tiger Saw all did a great job, and we were happy to debut some new songs for everyone there. It was great to see Tiger Saw again, and the singalong was lovely, as always. We wish them the best as they continue to tour extensively and bring love to people all across the country.

Please come to the show on September 29 in York at Sparky & Clark's. The Apathy Eulogy will be joining us for a night of coffee and music, so come and hang out. We will have more shows up soon, so keep checking. More videos and free songs are also in the works, so keep an eye out. Thanks to Carrie for all of our new wonderful pictures, and good luck to her at school!

Take care and keep listening.

            Much love,

            Nathan

08/09/06 10:00 AM - Show!

07/24/06 04:00 PM - New Song Available for Download

I recorded a demo for a new song yesterday in my room, and you can check it out on our Sound Click Site. It is called "Undressed in our Sleep", and it is a fairly different song for me. The instrumentation is pretty unique on this demo, but that has a lot to do with me doing it by myself over the course of several hours alone. I usually get fairly socially incapable and strange when I record alone for that long, so please keep that in mind. It is just something to check out before you hear it live and completely different with the band.

We are working on booking and learning new songs right now, so keep your eyes out for us and enjoy the summer.

            Much love,

            Nathan

07/14/06 10:00 AM - July in Pennsylvania

Happy Summer, everyone. We have been travelling and enjoying the sunny weather, playing shows with Koji on the Roof, Carroll Hill, twelve.o.one, and others, in Harrisburg, Ohio, and Camp Hill. We are also excited to be playing three shows next week in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, with wonderful bands like The Lady is not for Burning (thanks to Off the Beaten Path Productions).

Many of you have heard news of my recent military issues, involving possible deployment in the near future. Hopefully this will all settle, but this month has definitely been a stressful one for me, and I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers as I wait patiently for what will transpire. I will post a blog if anything of consequence occurs.

I would like to thank everyone that came out to the wonderful show with Temporarily Speaking and Koji on the Roof on Sunday, July 2, in Camp Hill. The turnout was surprising and exciting, and I know all the bands were appreciative and encouraged by the relaxed and fun crowd. I look forward to seeing some of those faces again at our shows this weekend. Our buddy Max posted a really nice blog about it, if you want to check that out here.

I have written several new songs in the past couple of months, so I am looking to record those soon for a possible release in the coming months. The instrumentation is not all worked out yet, but we will be learning them together soon. We are still in the process of deciding whether to hold them off for the next full-length or release a six-or-seven-song EP this winter. I guess we'll leave that decision to Bush. I'm sure he'll do the right thing.

Enjoy your July and stay in touch. We look forward to seeing you soon.

            Much love,

            Nathan

05/30/06 05:00 PM

Hello, all,

May is coming to a close, and lots of important things are happening with Raise up Roof Beams. We have been playing a lot of shows in various cities on the east coast, enjoying ourselves immensely and meeting new, interesting people all along the way. We have had a great time with The Green Trees Band and Carroll Hill, traveling like brothers, looking for trouble and rock and roll wherever we can find it. That will continue this week, with shows at The Midtown Scholar , Jo Jo's Pizza, and Emmaus, and we hope to see a lot of familiar faces at these great local venues. Check the shows page for more details, as well as for information about our dates in New York City and Ohio in coming weeks and months.

This has been a tentative time for the band, with lots of important decisions being made by each member, resulting in a new drive and direction for us as musicians. We are sad to see Drew leave, since he has been such an integral and important part of the band from its inception, but we are really happy for his progress and success in life, and we are glad to part on such a positive note, with good things ahead for all parties. I have had to make some important career decisions as well, and I am happy to say that the future is looking great for the Roof Beams, as Harrison and I work hard to play as many places as we can, with the help of Justin, Alan, and Carroll, depending on the night and venue. You will see us as a fluid entity in future months, playing lots of shows with between one and five pieces. We are really happy with Fingers and Photons, and we are excited about taking it all over the east coast this summer, and recording some more along the way. We will be paring up with the wonderful Koji on the Roof in July, as well, playing some shows to promote a split and just have a wonderful time together.

So, as you can see, life is full of change, sadness, and excitement all at once, and we are looking forward to hearing from all of you along the way.

Stay in touch and keep listening!

            Much love,

            Nathan

Almost two years ago, occasional collaborations between Nathan and I encouraged us to form a band. With the immediate addition of Harrison and the arrival of Justin a year later, Raise Up Roof Beams was born. Without a doubt, this group has become the greatest musical experience I have ever had. Not only were we able to put together some great tunes, but we recorded a wonderful album in Fingers and Photons, had a successful tour of the Midwest, and most importantly, made some very wonderful friends along the way. Sadly, the time has come when I have to make a decision. It is no longer possible for me to simultaneously pursue my calling from God and dedicate myself to the band with the necessary energy. Jonah lives as an example of what happens when you run away from God, so instead I have decided, as of the end of May, to leave Raise Up Roof Beams. Although it was my hope to continue to play with the band as I was available, it has become apparent that doing so would be to the detriment of the band, so I am amicably bowing out. I wish the band the best of luck in all of its future endeavors and I want to convey my deepest heartfelt thanks to all the fans who have supported us. You are all very beautiful wonderful people, and hopefully our paths can cross soon. May the peace of the Lord which passes all understanding be with you always.

Please try your hardest to come out to the Album Release Show for Fingers and Photons at Emmaus on April 29 in Gettysburg, PA. Visit our MySpace page for more details. Tara Toms will be opening for us, and it will be an all-around good time. We are very proud of this record and all the work it represents for the band, so we would love to share in the celebration with you!

Also, we booked a show at Gullifty's in Camp Hill with CJ Hill and The Green Trees Band on May 10 that looks to be amazing. We all love to play together, and this show will be amazingly fun. It is 18+, so be aware of that constraint, as well as the fact that people under 21 will probably have to pay a little bit more to enter (since you won't be hitting the sauce). We'll be updating with more details as that gets closer.

Can't make it to the release show, and can't wait to get the full-length record? Visit our Online Store at Willow Records (see our Links or Contact Page) to buy it with your credit card, along with some totally sweet t-shirts.

I hope to see you all soon and hear what you think of the record. Take care and keep listening!

            Much love,

A lot has developed over the past month or so. First off, the website is becoming increasingly more useful. Make sure to check out the added images in the media section. Additionally, lyrics have been added, so those of you with away message needs can hit those up. As a band we have completed the recording and all but the very finishing touches of the mixing for our new full-length. We are sending it out to be pressed within the next week. Of course, the album will be available at our shows, and we're working on making it available in additional ways (including our online store which is still in the works.) In March, we took our first tour, snaking our way through the Midwest, going as far as the suburbs of Detroit. Despite the smells and grouchiness of underbathed and cooped up band members, we lived to tell the tale, and consider ourselves very blessed to have had the opportunity to connect with new friends. Furthermore, our escapades have been documented with a cheap camcorder and we're working on editing the hours of cheesy inside jokes in hopes of bringing you an enjoyable tour documentary. As always, stay posted as we are constantly adding new shows and trying to find new ways to spend time with all of you.

            Peace be with you
